Zen Training
After a student has been practicing consistently for about one year,
he or she can ask to become a formal student of Sensei. This is an opportunity
and commitment to deepen one’s practice through sangha leadership and
service as well as through helping Sensei in his work.
The core teachings of Zen lie beyond words and concepts. Historically
the teachings are passed on from teacher to student, a mind to mind transmission.
In order to fully grasp and live out the teachings of our ancestors requires
an intimate teacher student relationship.
The relationship starts with shoken. Shoken means "to see each other"
and is the ceremony of becoming a formal student of Sensei Ray Ryuzan
Cicetti.
