ZazenZazen is formal seated meditation. It is the practice of sitting still and silent in the proper posture and is done in community with others in a Zendo (meditation hall). It can also be done in solitude at home. We begin our effort to concentrate on unifying body and mind by paying attention to our breathing. Letting go of thoughts and emotions that may arise, we continually return with full attention to the rhythm of breathing. Beyond thoughts is the clarity of boundless space which reveals our true nature and is always present and available. Zen practice is to discover and express this in our everyday life. This is Zen practice. Zazen ServicesOur service includes three 30 minute periods of zazen, 5 minute periods of kinhin (walking meditation) between each period of zazen, and chanting. Usually, Sensei Ray gives a teisho (dharma talk) or a student of the sangha sometimes gives an encouragement talk. The first Tuesday of each month, the last two periods of Zazen are used as a practice circle, enabling members and students to speak and listen to others as we discuss our practice.
