ZENDO CLOSED MAY 6TH - 12TH, 2018

Church of the Redeemer event Family Promise will be held the 2nd week of May, precluding EBZ use of community areas. Zazen will resume May 15th, and May Zazenkai will be on 3rd Saturday, May 19th.

ART PRACTICE: CALLIGRAPHY

  • Saturday, April 28, 8:00-9:30am
  • Add an art practice to your Zen program. Empty Bowl offers a Japanese-type calligraphy class to anyone in the local Zen community that is interested. Going forward, classes will be scheduled for the 4th Saturday of the month from 8:00-9:30am in the Zendo. Classes will always be announced in an eblast. Contact Ron Manning , ronjanman@aol.com or (973) 997-0101. Supplies can be provided for first timer “curiosity seekers”. Previous experience or knowledge of Chinese characters is not necessary. We have had about a dozen classes over the last few years, and program veterans have made real progress. Instruction is individualized. Suggested contribution is $10.

    DHARMA CIRCLE

    Dharma Circle is an informal discussion group that focuses on dharma study and fellowship. At our next meeting we will discuss our thoughts and insights about the attached article that discusses the Three Tenets, the foundational principles of the Zen Peacemakers organization (https://zenpeacemakers.org/the-three-tenets).

    Beth Bachmann pranamamanj@gmail.com and DaleSpriggs dale.spriggs@gmail.com coordinate the meetings. If you have any questions, contact either Beth or Dale. Light snacks will be provided.

    HEART CIRCLE SANGHA FILM SCREENING

    "Jesus & Buddha: Practicing Across Traditions"

    Friday June 1st, 7PM Ridgewood NJ

    "Jesus and Buddha"is a 44 minute documentary film created by John Ankele and featuring Roshi Robert Kennedy, SJ. The screening will be followed by a speaker forum and Q&A led by filmmaker John Ankele. Roshi Kennedy will be the keynote speaker, joined by Roshi Joan Hogetsu Hoeberichts and others.

  • Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm
  • EBZ Member Sandy Jakubowski leads a group of folks who sit zazen in Boonton on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00pm at St. John's Episcopal Church on Cornelia Street. Due to building usage, please call or text Sandy (973) 610-2394 by 5:00pm to let her know that you are attending. Street parking is available.
